Event Control Assistant

In March 2022, I was taken on by Select Security and Stewarding after meeting their Senior Control Room Manager at the Country-2-Country festival in London.

Since then, I have started my level 5 Crowd Management and Safety qualification with Select and I will be working at several events with them this summer. My first role was volunteer coordinator and controller, at The Great Escape Brighton. Over the course of June and July, I will also be working at British Summer Time as a part of the event control team.

Artist Liasion Runner

In March 2022, I had the opportunity to work at Country-2-Country festival with Ginger Owl Productions as an Artist Liaison Runner.

My role included; greeting artists and their crew in accreditation before escorting them to the relevant stage, introducing them to their AL and making sure they’re looked after whilst on site.
Working as part of the rider team, collecting various items and distributing them to the different stages, keeping green rooms well-stocked and correctly organised. Most importantly, being available on the radio to assist Artist Liaisons at any point during the day

Ginger Owl has since offered me more work and I shall be heading out to Black Deer, Camp Bestival Dorset and Camp Bestival Shropshire with them in various roles.

Events Assisstant

Since September 2021, I have been part of the Out the Box Productions team. Acting in several roles, a part of my work focuses on being in the events team. Over the past 8 months, I have co-organised and/or worked on 5 events with the company.

A personal highlight was Glostoneberet, a night run to raise money for the student radio station, Tone Radio. I was assistant event manager for the two-day event, so over several weeks my colleagues and I organised 19 acts over two stages and nights. The event was a great success, with over 200 attendees across two days.

Gloucester Guildhall

Over the course of 7 months, I aided in setting up Gloucester Guildhall's Young Programmers Project, which was designed to give 18-25-year-olds living in Gloucestershire the chance to run a series of live events at the famous Guildhall venue and in the wider town.

My colleague worked on the promotional aspects of the project, whilst I contacted potential stakeholders, created an expression of interest form, shortlisted and liaised with the young people who signed up and worked collaboratively with the Guildhall to set the project up.

Cheltenham Festivals

The opportunity to work at Cheltenham Literature festival arose last minute, however, it was one of the most rewarding jobs I had ever worked. My role mainly consisted of assisting in the smooth running of events, welcoming the audience into each venue and guiding them to their seats. Aiding the stage manager in making changeovers swift and efficient, guiding speakers and authors to and from the writer’s room, stage and book signing station at Waterstones. Also, I spent several shifts on call, responding to various different staff members needing quick help.

To have such a thriving events scene on my doorstep is wonderful, and it was great to get involved with a festival which has such a dedicated volunteer base. I learned so much over the week-long event and it was great to work with such an experienced crew. I hope to work at the Literature festival again, along with the other festivals run in Cheltenham.

2018

Mayfly Festival

Over a nine-month period, I co-organised a student-run festival called ‘Mayfly.’ I personally organised; eight food and market stalls to attend on the day and made arrangements for The People's Orchestra to attend and play. I also ran the promotional campaign for the festival which included posting regularly on Facebook and Instagram, as well as organising for a journalist to attend the festival (article available to read above).

On the day, I managed over 30 fellow students and performed as part of the headline band in the evening.

Mayfly 2018 was the most profitable Mayfly in history earning over £1,500 in profit and we had over 1,000 attendees across the afternoon and evening performances.

Over the course of 2018, I was lucky enough to be a part of a select group of young people chosen to run a one-day festival at the iconic Birmingham Town Hall.

I was part of the production team and created a day sheet and running order according to guidelines given by Birmingham THSH, following a strict budget and production manual. I also had a part in designing and ordering merchandise in the run-up to the event.

On the day, I was the stage manager and it was great to be on the side of the stage watching up and coming talent perform in front of such a huge audience in the heart of the city I lived in.
