Digital Accessibility Project Assistant

Since September 2021, course-mate Laura James and I have been working on a Digital Accessibility Project, designed to help deaf, disabled and neurodivergent music fans and artists access the venues they love. We developed a process of taking walk-through videos, 360 photos and static pictures of venues which creates a package, therefore making it easier for people with access needs to determine whether a venue is suitable for their individual needs and so that they can be familiar with the venue/its procedures upon arrival.

The project has developed to now involve stakeholders such as Attitude is Everything, Festival Republic, National Star College, Access Gloucestershire and the Disability Advisory Board based in Gloucestershire.

The first venue we mapped was Gloucester Guildhall (video, static photos and sample fo the 360 tour available to view below) and we plan to expand to the Frog and Fiddle as well as Wychwood Festival, before launching a wider project at Download Festival 2022 in partnership with Festival Republic.

As a neurodivergent person, this project is close to my heart and I'm dedicated to making the music industry and live events I love more accessible. Everyone should be able to experience the power of live music.

Supervisor of Sustainability Volunteers

As a supervisor, I oversaw varying group sizes of sustainability volunteers at the first UK festivals since the pandemic began, including Download Pilot and Latitude. It was great to be part of the test events, making sure the volunteers I was working with were keeping themselves safe by testing regularly and wearing masks whilst in indoor spaces.

My work also included, helping volunteers to set up sustainability stations on campsites, encouraging members of the public to recycle, keep their campsites clean and take home all of their equipment at the end of the festivals.

I will be working for Festival Republic again this summer on the 2022 festival circuit, however in a different role, working on both the Accessibility and Accreditation teams.

Volunteer- Carbon Footprinting Project

The first of its kind the country, at Leeds festival I worked with Kane Peters, who set up a carbon foot printing project in partnership with Festival Republic. The work was designed to help festival attendees make more sustainable choices when it came to ordering food from onsite traders by calculating the carbon footprint of menu items and displaying them in a three leaf system. (Three leaves = environmentally friendly, one leaf = not very environmentally friendly).

Over the festival I assisted Kane in collecting the relevant food data from the trial traders as well as ensuring other traders working at the festival were complying with the sustainability rules and regulations set by Festival Republic.
